One of Sara's favourite things about Irish mythology is how many strong female characters feature in the stories. One of the most fearsome and legendary has to be Meabh, warrior queen of Connacht. She ruled for sixty years, and had at least five husbands during her reign. It was her competitive relationship with one of these husbands, Ailill, which leads to the most famous Irish epic, The Táin, as she invades Ulster to attempt to capture their famous brown bull, but is defeated by a teenaged Cú Chulainn.
This print features symbols of femininity, in both the roses and the Celtic patterns. The palette comes from the colours of the rocks and foliage in the mountains near her cairn
Please note that due to the nature of silk and it being printed in small batches that colours can vary slightly, although we try our best to ensure continuity. Due to this and computer/ phone screen settings the colours can look a little different to above.
